What is a good simple/basic screen ruler (to measure pixels on screen) and graphic editor for Mac OS X v10.10.5 (Yosemite)? This is for a Windows user who uses old Jasc's Paint Shop Pro, Paint.NET, etc. I tried a few like Pascal's old Free Ruler, but didn't like them. I am hoping you guys use better softwares that I haven't discovered yet. Also, is it me or is there no free screen ruler on Apple's App Store?
If he is used to Paint shop, he should like Image Editor. It is pre 1.0 and free but works well for less intensive tasks. It has been stable for me so far. You'll have to search the app store for it. I couldn't send a link from my Purchases.
Under Mac OS X, that may be true. However, under Linux, I get at least a few rulers for free. Considerably more value than what I paid for -- even when I purchase a distribution with support, like Red Hat. Sadly, I am occasionally forced into situations where a client wants me to use a commercial, proprietary OS, for which good money was paid, but doesn't work right (e.g. the built-in Python is not only wonky, it's old) and fails to come with "batteries included" or readily available -- like a repository with a couple of ruler applications.
The difference between artboard rulers and global rulers is thatif you select artboard rulers, the origin point changes based onthe active artboard. In addition, you can have different originpoints for artboard rulers. Now, if you change the artboard rulerorigin, the pattern fills in objects on the artboards are not affected.
To toggle between artboard rulers and global rulers, choose View > Rulers > Change to Global Rulers or View > Rulers > Change to Artboard Rulers. Artboard rulers appear by default, so the Change to Global Rulers option appears in the Rulers sub-menu.
For saving to legacy versions of Illustrator, the Global rulersremain at the position set in legacy document. Although, the originpoint does not move to upper left, the coordinate system changesto fourth quadrant.
The change in coordinate system and the ruler origin does notapply to scripting, which allows you to retain old scripts. However, when you transform objects using scripting, the Y coordinate valuesdiffer from the values that you set in the Illustrator user interface. For example, if you apply a move operation of say Y= +10 points, then to emulate the same movement with scripting, apply a transformationof Y = -10pts.
Guides help you align text and graphic objects. You can create ruler guides (straight vertical or horizontal lines) and guide objects (vector objects that you convert to guides). Like the grid, guides do not print.
This replacement for the footbar / ruler fits full-sized Das Keyboard 4 products, including the 4 Professional, 4 Professional for Mac, 4 Ultimate, 4 root, and 4Q. It does not fit the Das Keyboard 4C TKL. The footbar attaches magnetically to the bottom of the keyboard to raise the angle the keyboard, features improved rubber feet to prevent the keyboard from sliding on your desktop and provides a ruler that is always within reach (trust us, you'll thank us later).
I am new to this forum. I have an issue where my "dock" icons keep on changing to a ruler and a caliper. More specifically this happens to my league of legends icon and my system preferences icon. Please let me know how to fix this aside from the "killall Dock" option. Due to the fact that this helps only once, it doesn't fix the issue permanently. What I did to fix this is clearing caches, clearing my hard drive a bit making a free space of 43gb even though I think that's not the solution. Cleared my desktop icons to 0 only my external drives appear there now. I appreciate all the help and support. Let's see how we can fix this, best answer wins :) :P
If you are looking for the fastest way to take a screenshot in 2022, Lightshot is your ideal snipping tool. The good news is that Lightshot is the best free snipping tool for Mac in terms of services.
The Measurist App offers three different modes and a slider for transparency. Images, graphics, windows, elements and the like that are behind the app window on the screen can be measured. Desk symbols, documents and folders can also be measured in this way, if necessary. If you really don't have another ruler at hand and have to measure a sheet of paper, a paper clip or something like that, you can also use the non-transparent Measurist app;)
By the way: Measuring digital content with a precise ruler as an app for the Apple Mac can also make sense in many other areas of application. If it says in an online shop that products or their images are shown in their original size, then you can measure them that way. Even if you design a graphic or a print product yourself, you can measure with millimeter precision whether everything is correct. Sure there are separate solutions for this in setting programs for professionals - but for hobby, the wedding or graduation newspaper, etc. you can install the free Measurist app;)
Admittedly, I haven't tested much. I downloaded the Measurist software for free from the Mac App Store, played around with the individual functions and created a folding rule / folding rule. In the following picture you can see that the display is accurate. The apparently visible deviations result from the camera perspective. But if you look directly at a 90 angle with the ruler on the display with the Measurist app, you can see that really clear millimeters are displayed.
If you drag the app window onto an external monitor, the scale will be recalculated. You can tell that the app stops responding for a short time and then the ruler adapts. On my external Full HD monitor with a 22 inch diagonal, this also resulted in a correct display of the ruler. But that doesn't have to be the case with every device.
Pro Tools can analyse the notes in a selection, whether a MIDI clip or notes across tracks in the MIDI editor. Pro Tools adds Chord Symbol markers to the Chord Symbols ruler for all chords detected, using the library of chords found in the chord change dialogue box.
In Photoshop you can use guidelines to help you line up images, text or shapes in your document. You set up these guidelines by dragging out from the rulers at the top and side of the workspace, so the first step is to make sure your rulers are visible.
To show or hide rulers in Photoshop, choose View > Rulers or press Cmd + R (Mac) or Ctrl + R (Windows). A ruler will appear along the top and along the left-hand side of the interface. To turn the rulers off again just hit the same keyboard shortcut.
3. To place a guide on the image, click on a ruler (either the horizontal at the top or the vertical on the left) and drag a guide out. The cursor changes to a double arrow, and the guide will appear as a thin line as you drag it into position. Let go to drop the guide wherever you want it. The colour of your guide line will depend on your preference settings. (see more on Photoshop preferences near the end of this article)
